It is with a heavy heart that I must pass on the news about Wendy Moon’s passing.  A founding editor of the International Journal of Motorcycle Studies (IJMS), an academic, a rider, a philosopher, and an activist, Wendy will be missed by many people in the motorcycling community luminar 4 downloaden.  The IJMS is dedicating space to this wonderful woman and I encourage you to visit the site and read all you care to read.

Love, Respect, and Ride Free Wendy,

ArtBiker

Wendy Moon, staunch supporter of TEAM OREGON and outspoken critic of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) died suddenly at her home in St netflix on mac. Louis, Missouri on January 11, 2011 of a heart attack. She was 57. She is survived by her four children, Rose, Jessica, John and Daniel Leifeld. Private services have been held.

Most of the motorcycle safety community knew Wendy as Moonrider, author of the thoughtful provocative and well-researched blog she established on Journalspace in 2005 www.gbw-gruppe.de herunterladen. She was unwavering in following her

motto “Holding Powerful Interests Accountable”.

Before she appeared on the motorcycle safety scene, Wendy was a writer, columnist and author for more than 16 years. With a master’s degree in theology, she wrote for a wide variety of publications, including Screenline, National Catholic Reporter, The Family, and Star Observer herunterladen. She was a columnist for New Covenant and Catholic Parent magazines and wrote two books on religion. She was also a founding editor of the International Journal of Motorcycle Studies. It’s easy to see what a complex, remarkable and engaging person Wendy was, when you contrast these with her carefully documented reports on motorcycle safety issues, her screenplay for the movie She-Devils on Wheels and her post as Assistant Lecturer at the University of Southern California herunterladen.

In 2004 David Hough, Fred Rau and Wendy researched and published a series of articles in Motorcycle Consumer News that sparked a national dialog examining the relationship between the MSF

and the motorcycle manufacturers who finance and direct its activities. Wendy’s tireless and tenacious research exposed the motorcycle industry’s alleged plan for monopolizing motorcycle training. It also revealed a disturbing trend in fatalities and near-fatal injuries to students in MSF-approved rider training courses minecraft beta.

Wendy and her readers suffered a terrible blow in 2009 when the Journalspace servers experienced a catastrophic failure. Her Moonrider blog vaporized along with hundreds of other blogs. Four years of essays and commentary were gone. Even before that, Wendy was discouraged and ready to give up on her blog videos from youtube app. She had invested thousands of dollars on her own, not to mention the countless hours of research and analysis. She was ready to quit, but she wrote:

“I was very discouraged at the time – I felt I had worked very hard for years to little effect . . . and now it was gone forever . . . I thought about it a lot yesterday and decided there is a value in having an alternative view of the efficacy and safety of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation rider training curriculum available on the Internet Download apps only via wi-fi iphone. . . What was a disaster for Journalspace, then, gives me a chance to re-create a body of work that gives a non-industry and non-governmental perspective on rider training and motorcycle safety . . . So that’s what I’m going to do over time–I’m just going to do it a little differently. And I’ll continue to write on issues that have come up recently and those that will come up in the future.”

So Moonrider became Moonrider Redux, rising from the ashes as Wendy re-established her blog at wordpress.com and took up the challenge again sims 4 grundstücke downloaden. She continued her quest for the truth until her death. Her selfless dedication to motorcycling and motorcycle safety created a priceless archive of data and history. Wendy was key in opening a conversation that continues to reverberate throughout the motorcycle safety community. It promises to forever change and improve motorcycle training empire earth 2 kostenlos downloaden vollversion. By questioning the “Sacred Truths” that many had accepted for years, she revealed the greasy underside of the motorcycle safety industry and inspired us to ask our own questions.

Wendy was a personal friend to many of us. Even when we disagreed, I admired her tenacity and razor- sharp B.S. slicer. She loved motorcycling and motorcyclists. She was persistent, resourceful and brave. This was dedicated to another departed friend who shared Wendy’s remarkable qualities. It is now dedicated to Wendy, too:

Endurance

We race the lost trails of the galaxy, thundering down from hyperspace for gas and Gatorade, a hastily scribbled note,

time, date, mileage and a half-forgotten quote, from a crumbling spire on the abandoned shore of Mare Copernicus

Alone together on our quest we dream a grail of smoke and steel, of headlight-lasered highway signs, meteors flashing through dark pines, immersed in wailing mustang wind the dusty sweetgrass scent of night, the fire between our wheels.

Drawn ever toward our shimmering goal, we run to crest the shifting tide. Freed by trial of spirit, flesh and heart, by wheeled magic fueled on breath of nameless stars, we shed our mortal boundaries,

mere riders no more. Becoming,

at last, The Ride.

Wendy’s loss leaves a hole in our galaxy that will never be filled. Bob Reichenberg

Biker News, Weekend Pass : Biker's Rights and the Law  Comments Off on California mandates safety course for new under-21 riders
Jan 202011

Previously the permits were offered with only a written test to riders age 15 1/2-years and older.

The law was dubbed “Jarrad’s Law” after its namesake video from website. Jarrad Cole had passed the DMV written exam for his permit when he and his dad Evam set up orange cones in their cul-de-sac to practice on a Suzuki RS word downloaden gratis 2016. So, how bout them red light cameras??  Many of us have been snagged (myself included), many of the snags were unwarranted (like when we got hit for turning right on red at an intersection where it was legal and after coming to a complete stop)… Yes, I know the word going through your heads right now… Bullshit Download freecell for free german.

Well, many have been taken down and have been ruled as unconstitutional.  Here in Houston they are no longer legal and I am so happy about it outlook 2010 freigegebene ordner herunterladen deaktivieren.  There was a point in time when I would fantasize about having my readers from all over the country go out and shoot them with paint ball guns or in some other way incapacitate them… Or take a page out of Cool Hand Luke’s Handbook and cut them down…

Well, today I ran across another favorite blog of mine, Bikes in the Fast Lane by Mike Warner download animal crossing on switch.  He has a lot of great international news and stories….  Evidently, there is an uprising against red light cameras in South Africa.  His story follows herunterladen.

Love, Respect, and Fight The Power,

ArtBiker

It’s sad, but funny at the same time. Some smart thieves in South Africa, have discovered that many of the red light cameras in operation in Johannesburg have an auto diagnostic function, that verifies if the camera is working properly download the patient's order. It sends it the diagnostics data to a central computer by means of a GSM call herunterladen.

So you can probably see where this is going. The thieves break open the central unit of the camera, and remove the GSM SIM card. This allows them to ride though the red light on their motorcycle or car (which is a bad thing), and make free phone calls courtesy of the city of Johannesburg willy werkel download kostenlos vollversion.

Obviously the city isn’t too pleased, since it costs $3,000 to repair each camera. According to earlier reports, thieves were also removing the poles from the red light cameras, and selling them as scrap metal padlet app.

As I said, sad, but funny

The following is a re-post from WTN Biker News.

Dave Fredricks, a member of the Angel Project, helps Randy Van Hulle with his wings outside the funeral for Christina-Taylor Green, 9. They and other sympathizers came in solidarity to protect the family from a hate group from Kansas that had threatened to show up, but didn’t.

Mourners at the funeral of Christina-Taylor Green were greeted by more than a thousand sympathizers who lined North Shannon Road for a quarter-mile south of St adonis. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

Many wore white, and many had responded to an Internet call to counter the possible appearance of an out-of-state hate group.

They arrived on nearly 200 motorcycles, on foot and on shuttle buses from area parking lots, some prompted into action by the anticipated presence of a group from Kansas that protests funerals of veterans and gay people knuddels. The group ended up not showing.

Many of the sympathizers who showed up wore white and stood quietly on either side of Shannon Road. Among them were 18 “angels” with giant wings made from plastic pipe and bedsheets, who stood side by side in silence less than a block from the church for an hour and a half.

Behind them, graffiti on a subdivision’s block wall read: “Christina” and “Stop the Hate.”

In the church parking lot, several firefighters and soldiers stood between two fire-ladder trucks, to hoist the 9/11 Flag at the church instagram link. The flag weighs 45 pounds.

The “New York Says Thank You Foundation” flew the flag to Tucson Wednesday to honor Christina-Taylor, 9, who was among six killed in Saturday’s shooting at a northwest-side Safeway. She was born on Sept. 11, 2001.

The flag was flying at 90 West Street in New York when the twin towers went down. It is the same tattered flag seen in the iconic photo of ground zero tariefkaart taxi downloaden.

Pieces of retired flags from all 50 states have been used to repair the flag, which is on tour this year until the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

The flag was to be flown to Atlanta Thursday, so it will not be in Tucson today for the funeral of U.S. District Judge John M. Roll, at the same northwest-side church.

On Thursday, families holding hands, cowboy types in boots and hats, bikers in Hells Angels and Huns jackets, teens, seniors and others were there – most for the same reason: to support the Green family issuu pdf.

“She was such a shining little star,” Tucsonan Jean Semington said of Christina-Taylor. “It’s tragic. . . . I’ve lost a son. I know a little of the pain.”

Ten-year-old Lindsey Lummus wore white angel wings and a halo as she stood beside the street with her family excel template.

“I came to support them,” said Lindsey, a fifth-grader at Quail Run Elementary School.

Jeanne Davis traveled from Scottsdale and carried a large sign reading: “Our thoughts & prayers are with the Green family.”

“This was such a big negative experience for Arizona,” Davis said. “We’ve got to stand together now.”

Casey Trapp and Katie Maine held white roses they said were distributed by an “unknown gentleman.”

“We wanted to be here,” Maine said herunterladen. “There’s power in these numbers.”

Dennis Bennett journeyed from Phoenix with 55 fellow members of the Phoenix Motorcycle Riders Group.

“We just want to show our support,” Bennett said. “And if dummies show up, we want to stand in front of them.”

Angel Project organizer Wayne Belger said the Angels are trained to resist provocation by the hate group where can I download apps for free. Some are veterans of non-violent protest, and all were trained for this deployment in a role-playing session Wednesday night. The Angels surround the hate group with their wings so that funeral-goers do not have to see the signs being carried – usually stating that the deaths are God’s punishment for homosexuality.

One of the angels, Ralph Alter, said: “I had to do something, and this seemed like a good way to take positive action.”

Alter, who said he has a transgender son and many gay friends, said it was also “something I can do for them, too.”

Another Angel organizer, Christin Gilmer, was dressed in white but did not don angel wings Download videos from facebook smartphone. The group discourages people with personal connections to a funeral from doing so, she said.

“I knew Gabe (Zimmerman, a victim). We were very involved in similar causes.”

Gilmer also worked on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ campaigns and knew shooting victim Dorwan Stoddard through volunteer activities. “He was very sweet,” she said.

After the funeral began, the 18 angels turned and walked north, wings outstretched, along a dirt path next to the road pdf dateien downloaden.

They were headed to a nearby home where a resident told them they could store their wings until today’s funeral at the same church for Judge Roll.

He’s had many roles; bodybuilder, action star and politician but now Arnold Schwarzenegger has been given the honor of AMA’s Motorcyclist of the Year.

But before the California Governor makes room on a mantle for the award, he might want to consider why it was given.

The award, which is given annually, recognizes the person who has had the most profound impact on the world of motorcycling, for better or worse, in the previous 12 months foxit pdfen.

In 2010, outgoing California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signature brought into effect a controversial law the AMA feels will have far-reaching and potentially harmful effects on the motorcycling community nationwide.

With no fanfare, Schwarzenegger signed a poorly crafted bill on Sept. 28 that fundamentally changes how California will regulate motorcycle exhaust systems kostenlose ps3 spiele downloaden. The new law also maps a path for the rest of the country, as other state and local lawmakers look for their own answers to address excessive motorcycle sound. The full story is in the January 2011 issue of American Motorcyclist magazine, the journal of the AMA.

“Gov. Schwarzenegger signed a piece of legislation that has rocked the motorcycling world, and will impact motorcyclists in other states as well for years to come,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman herunterladen. “This makes him the logical choice for the 2010 AMA Motorcyclist of the Year.”

The legislation, California Senate Bill 435, the Motorcycle Anti-Tampering Act, requires every new motorcycle or aftermarket exhaust system built starting in 2013 to carry a stamp on the exhaust certifying that it meets federal Environmental Protection Agency sound requirements. For most motorcycles, the law is a de-facto OEM (original equipment manufacturer) exhaust mandate because the federal standard was not designed for aftermarket manufacturers, and compliance for the scores of low-volume production models now on the market is extremely problematic animations.

The AMA has long advocated reasonable measures be adopted for the regulation of excessive motorcycle sound, and cites the Society of Automotive Engineers J2825 motorcycle sound testing procedure as the most fair, economical and practical solution to the problem vexing communities nationwide.

Since 1924, the AMA has protected the future of motorcycling and promoted the motorcycle lifestyle. AMA members come from all walks of life, and they navigate many different routes on their journey to the same destination: freedom on two wheels meros album downloaden. As the world’s largest motorcycling rights organization, the AMA advocates for motorcyclists’ interests in the halls of local, state and federal government, the committees of international governing organizations, and the court of public opinion. Through member clubs, promoters and partners, the AMA sanctions more motorsports competition and motorcycle recreational events than any other organization in the world goodie call herunterladen.

“The California law is a poorly crafted piece of legislation that’s discriminatory and does little to address the core problem of excessive sound from all sources, not just motorcycles,” Dingman said. “Rather than objectively regulate offensive noise, this law creates all sorts of problems for riders, law enforcement and aftermarket manufacturers.”

An EPA certification label is no guarantee of sound compliance, and the lack of a label is no guarantee that an exhaust is too loud download mp3 songs from youtube. The only way to know if a motorcycle exhaust is compliant is to test its actual sound output, Dingman noted.

“As a motorcyclist, Gov. Schwarzenegger should have known better,” Dingman said. “Now California’s motorcyclists, as well as key segments of our industry, are going to be negatively impacted.”

Currently, only two aftermarket manufacturers offer EPA-sound-stamped exhaust systems for a handful of late-model Harley-Davidsons wordpress mediathek bilderen. The process of certification is complex and expensive. For the millions of owners whose motorcycle models were made in relatively small numbers, the requirement to replace an aging exhaust system with an expensive OEM system is onerous and discriminatory. Owners of automobiles and trucks don’t have to meet the same standard, and they can buy less expensive replacement exhaust systems at local muffler shops herunterladen.

Schwarzenegger’s selection as AMA Motorcyclist of the Year was reinforced by California’s position as a role model for the rest of the country.

“In many cases, we’ve seen other states follow California’s legislative lead on a number of issues,” Dingman said. “There’s no reason to think that trend won’t continue with respect to S.B. 435. With the stroke of his pen, Gov. Schwarzenegger significantly altered the motorcycling landscape for motorcyclists everywhere, and this is the reason why his selection as AMA Motorcyclist of the Year is so impactful.”

The move that brought the infamy of the latest award was a different road for Schwarzenegger who has been an ally of motorcycling with key appointments to decision-making committees that deal with off-highway riding issues, as an example. In addition, as a known motorcyclist himself, Schwarzenegger has drawn attention to motorcycling and, after a high-profile crash in 2006, the need for proper motorcycle licensing.

But for some, with both politics as well as acting, regardless of any hits he may have had in the past Schwarzenegger’s last role on the motorcycle stage may be the one he is most remembered for.

“We will continue to work with municipal governments and state legislatures to implement reasonable measures, such as the SAE J2825 standard, to address excessive motorcycle sound,” said Dingman. “But we now have the added burden of showing how California’s new measure is not an effective solution, and we have Gov. Schwarzenegger to thank for that.”
