daveweb1He has been referred to as “The Norman Rockwell of Harley-Davidson artists.”  David Uhl born in Toledo, Ohio in 1961 was always interested in art and by high school’s end, had decided to pursue it as a career. After being awarded a full ride scholarship to the Colorado Institute of Art, he decided to leave after only one year to pursue his own career in commercial illustration.

In 1988, David got a Harley and rode to Sturgis where his life was to change forever.  Like so many of us who make a pilgrimage to The Rally, the biker culture had gotten its talons into Uhl.  He began to create t-shirt designs for the Factory.

In 1996 David discovered oil painting and his world again began to shift.  By 1998 he had created a brand new niche in the art world, Harley-Davidson Fine Art.  With particular interest in motorcycle imagery from the 1930s and ‘40s, David created his first work for the executives of Harley-Davidson.  The saga continues and he is still creating amazing works that are available for all collectors.

The problem with such amazing fine art painting is that it usually comes with a fine art price tag.  Alas, there is hope for those of us who would love to collect, but are a little financially challenged.  Uhl has decided to release some of his works on eBay for auction.  These pieces can very possibly be had for a fraction of what they would cost in a gallery.  The following is a note from the artist himself.

“Greetings to all eBay shoppers. I have a VERY special offering that has never been made before… I have spent the last year and a half building a studio/gallery space in Golden, Colorado. Since we are nearly finished I have before me the arduous task to organize all my prints. Looking through my flat files has yielded many forgotten treasures from the past.  Rather than finding a place for everything I thought I would make some of these   available at a significant price reduction for all those who may have liked a piece but could not afford one.

In 1998 when I became the archival painter for Harley-Davidson, I was published by Segal Fine Art. They set my pricing structure and I have not raised the prices since, and in my business you cannot drop them because of the investment of all those who purchased previously.

I have included test prints, old posters, and unique items stuck in my drawers for years. I will be implementing a reserve on all items to keep them from being given away, but I assure you these prices have NEVER been lower.  Anyone buying any of these items can rest assured they will arrive in perfect condition along with the certificates and appropriate paperwork.  For all those who reside in the continental U.S., I am offering free shipping on all unframed prints. Happy Holidays and Good Luck! ” David Uhl, Uhl Studios.

You can bet that I will be putting in a bid.  Don’t know that I will win, but I would sure love to have a David Uhl for the ArtBiker World Headquarters.
