I don’t know about you, but I would love to go to Daytona for Biketoberfest.  In fact, this is one rally I have actually never attended.  Now I have been to all the others, Myrtle Beach, Laconia, Sturgis, Hollister, Arizona, Four Corners, and Daytona (in the Spring), but never Daytona in the Fall…

Like many of you, I have read much about the week. “It is a bit easier to get around, quieter, shorter beer lines, etc…” Sounds good.  And any excuse to get out on the bike for a week is a good excuse for me.  And seeing on how I am in Houston, it is an short two or three day ride there, kick it for a bit, and head home.

Again, like many of you, I will have to pass on purely financial reasoning.  Yeah, my Ol’ Lady would be into it, might even encourage me to just get a few of the guys together to head out there, time off from work wouldn’t be too big an issue, god knows the bike is ready, willing, and able… yet, the wallet seems a bit reluctant.  So I will be sitting this one out, again.  But for those of you who are heading that way, here are a few highlights you might want to hit.

  1. Willies Tropical Tattoo- Old School Chopper Show.  This is the reason I go to Daytona on a regular basis.  This show is worth the entire trip all on its own.  Great folks, great music, cheap beer, fantastic tattoos, fast women, and amazing real world, down to earth bikes. Thursday October 15, from noon till 5pm, the address is US1 (Eastside Ridgewood Avenue) in Ormond Beach.
  2. Viper Motorcycle Company will have a co-promotion with Eddie Trotta to display products at the International Speedway on Speedway Blvd, October 15 through 17.  “Eddie is one of our key dealers, an icon in this industry and we are pleased to be in a position to jointly display our products,” Terry Nesbitt, President of Viper, stated, “Thunder Cycle is located in Ft. Lauderdale and represents Viper products in south Florida. In addition to representing the Viper product line, we are also discussing the possibilities of future opportunities with our proprietary 152 inch engines regarding Eddie’s custom designed motorcycles.”
  3. Of course, there is the legendary Rat’s Hole Custom Bike Show… this is like the Willie’s show, a must see!  Get there early and check everyone out as they line up their bikes to enter the contest area and have their bikes photographed with Big Daddy Rat.
  4. Destination Daytona:  Looks like the Rat’s Hole show is here this year, but while you are there, be sure to check out the empire that the late, great Bruce Rossmeyer created.  There you will find a huge bike complex with H-D dealership, hotels, food, bands, Arlen Ness’s new shop, J&P, and a whole lot more!  The Easyrider’s show has been here in the past, but not sure about this year.
  5. Head on down to Port Orange where there are a few good things going on… the best of the bunch is always The Last Resort Bar… where the women are killer! Yup, hangout of female serial killer Aileen Wuornos and the spot where she was eventually captured.
  6. And last but not least, head out to New Smyrna Beach to hit the Cabbage Patch for some good ol’ fashioned cole slaw wrestling… fun!

Now I know others of you will have some good ideas for our readers as well… please pipe in if you have a favorite event or haunt for this weekend and for those of you heading out there, have a beer for me.

Love, Respect, and Ride Safe,
