We have one of the richest energy reserves on the planet, enough to impoverish millions of America`s poorest workers. But under this agreement, we are effectively locking those reserves under lock and key and we are taking away the great wealth of our nation – it is great wealth, it is phenomenal wealth; Not so long ago, we had no idea that we had such wealth – leaving millions and millions of families trapped in poverty and unemployment. Currently, 197 countries – every nation on earth, the last signatory being war-torn Syria – have adopted the Paris Agreement. Of these, 179 have solidified their climate proposals with formal approval – including the US for now. The only major emitting countries that have not yet officially joined the deal are Russia, Turkey and Iran. In addition, the agreement establishes a new mechanism to “facilitate implementation and promote compliance”. This committee of “non-adversarial” experts will try to help countries that are lagging behind in their commitments to get back on track. There are no penalties for non-compliance. The risks increase as these agreements become historically more ambitious over time. In other words, the Setting of Paris is a starting point, as bad as it is, not an end point. And withdrawal from the agreement protects the United States from future interference in U.S. sovereignty and massive future legal liability.
Believe me, we have a huge legal responsibility if we stay. .
